All things wear down with time. Operating systems are no exceptions. Installation of new programs, uninstallation, deleting & moving large files besides other factors all keep on degrading the speed of your system. Over a period of time….you end up with a system which takes ages to boot n work with.
Most computers that run on Windows-based operating systems also slow down over a period of time as many programs install themselves as automatic startup functions. Every time you boot your system….these programs load themselves in memory leading to a terribly slow boot time. Many of these programs can’t easily be removed from the startup process.
However, there are ways of tackling the problem. One of them is by using the “msconfig” command. Msconfig allows the users to control which programs will be included in the automatic startup list. Removing unnecessary programs from the startup list would decrease the System startup time.
It’s not advisable to remove all programs from the automatic startup list, especially ones responsible for the Computer Security like Virus scanner. Removing these programs from the computer startup list would compromise the computer security.
Another way to bolster the speed of your system is to defragment all your hard disks at regular intervals. Disk Defragmenter consolidates fragmented files and folders on your computer’s hard disk, so that each occupies a single, contiguous space on the volume. As a result, your system can gain access to your files and folders and save new ones more efficiently. By consolidating your files and folders, Disk Defragmenter also consolidates the volume’s free space, making it less likely that new files will be fragmented.
