Improving the aesthetic of windows OS has always been a fascination for me. Of late, I was really annoyed by the pesky shortcut arrows, which took their place in every shortcut i created.
So….I decided to get rid of all the clutter accumulated so far. Removing Shortcut Arrow from Desktop Icons in Windows XP requires a small tryst with Registry Editing but goes a long way in improving aesthetics of your Desktop.
Windows Registry is a directory which stores settings and options for the for Microsoft Windows. It contains information and settings for all the hardware, operating system software, most non-operating system software, users, preferences of the PC. User’s preferences related to Control panel settings, Software settings etc are stored in the Registry.
Here’s the low down on the steps required to accomplish the task :
1. Click on Start -> Run -> type REGEDIT -> click OK
2. Click on Edit Menu Item in Registry Editor-> Find -> type IsShortcut-> click Find Next button -> right-click on IsShortcut and then select Delete.
3. Keep deleting the IsShortcut until there are no IsShortcut registry values left.
4. Close the Registry editor and reboot the system.
Welcome to Windows XP devoid of pesky Shortcut Arrows…..Rejoice ! ! !
